Prosthetics and Orthotics Program at Hamilton Health Sciences is the largest
facility of its kind in Canada. The department offers service to pediatric and
adult patients in acute, rehabilitation and ambulatory settings. Our team
includes a mix of certified clinical, clinical residents, registered technical,
technical interns, administrative and learner positions that help support
patients through their journey of receiving prosthetic and orthotic treatment.
We work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to provide custom
prosthetic and orthotic solutions. Using the latest digital and traditional
techniques, our team designs specific solutions to support patients in
achieving their functional, recreational and/or esthetic goals.

Currently we are looking for the following:
Certified
Clinical or Clinical Resident (Prosthetics and/or Orthotics)
Position Summary
The
certified clinician or clinical resident is responsible for the assessment,
shape capture and treatment planning/implementation and ongoing evaluation of
orthotic or prosthetics services. Our clinical staff work under the direction
of a physician referral. P&O treatment is provided in an ambulatory setting
but may also include duties such as attending physician clinics, or working in
interdisciplinary environments such as rehabilitation and inpatient
environments.
1. Successful
completion of an Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC) credential clinical
training institute.
2. Certified
clinician status with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada or must be an eligible OPC clinical
resident. Certification in both Prosthetics and Orthotics, CPO(c)
designation would be considered an asset.

Registered as an authorizer in good standing with the Assistive Devices Program
of Ontario
4.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience (within the last 5 years), in the
ability to assess and treat and provide ongoing care to those who require
prosthetic and/or orthotic treatment.

Self-directed, flexible, independent clinician who is also able to
collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
6.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a
wide variety of stakeholder groups including patients, families, support
staff/caregivers, funding agencies and other members within the circle of care.
7. Strong
written skills with the ability to maintain an electronic health record related
to the treatment provided.
8.
Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to make adjustments
to meet urgent deadlines.
9. Demonstrated
ability to perform repetitive bending, reaching, pushing, lifting and
assessment/fabrication techniques using appropriate body mechanics.
10. Demonstrated
knowledge of patient and workplace safety procedures/protocols with the ability
to apply this knowledge in multiple settings.
11. Demonstrated
commitment to supporting resident and student education, as well as
participating in continuing professional development.
12. Demonstrated
commitment to being involved or leading initiatives that improve patient care,
education, workplace health & safety and research.
13. As a condition

Registered
Technician (Prosthetics and/or Orthotics)
Position Summary
The P&O
Technician role is integral to the fabrication of custom prostheses and/or
orthoses. Technicians work closely with clinical staff in the design and are
responsible for the physical creation of the device, which may involve working
with various metals, plastics, foams, and the use of CAD software. Our
technicians may assist in fitting appointments and are involved in after care
follow up/maintenance of the device
Qualifications
1. Successful completion of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Technical
Program at George Brown College.
2. Registered
technician status with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada or must be actively seeking
registration. Registration in both Prosthetics and Orthotics (RTPO) would
be considered an asset.
3.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience (within the last 5 years), in the
ability to fabricate custom prosthetic and/or orthotic devices using
established standards, policies or procedures.
4. Self-directed, flexible, independent technician who is also able to collaborate

Student Position
The P&O department has learner positions that seeks
candidates who have a demonstrated interest in the field of prosthetics and
orthotics. Students must demonstrate how their experience in this
contract position will help advance their learning and contribute to
strengthening their application to an accredited P&O program.
