6 E's for Registration
Eligibility
- Fluent in French and/or English.
- A citizen or a legal landed immigrant of Canada or an American Board for Certification (ABC) certified professional in good standing.
Education
- George Brown College (GBC) is home to Canada's only dedicated Prosthetic-Orthotic Technician Program, which offers classroom and lab studies as well as a two month-long work placements at P&O treatment facilities.
Experience
- In order to become Registered, an Internship of approximately two years with OPC under the supervision of a Certified Clinician or Registered Technician is required.
- Alternatively, a four-year Internship can be completed by a candidate who is not a graduate of a College Program.
Examination
- Candidates must challenge the national OPC Registration examination consisting of both written and practical components.
Ethics
- All candidates and certified professionals, are expected to conduct themselves within the OPC Canons of Ethical Conduct. Breaches are investigated by the Professional Practice Committee.
- They are obligated to support and conform to professional responsibilities, which promote the overall wellness of the client and integrity of the profession.
Education - Continuing
- Registered Technicians are required to obtain a minimum of 20 continuing education credits (MCEs) every five years to maintain good standing or risk losing registration.
- Every two years OPC hosts a Technical Symposium, allowing technicians to present and share fabrication techniques and ideas
